Beyond the hamlet of San Pietro, towards the mountains, you reach Santa Caterina. It is a simple, homely area of strong farming tradition. As you walk towards the chestnut woods which surround Scala, the houses become fewer and fewer and you may bump into tinkling flocks of sheep and herds of goats.
The pretty church of St Catherine of Alexandria. It has a Byzantine structure and inside there are Baroque decorations. The main feature is the wooden statue over the altar of St Catherine, one of Scala’s patron saints.
